Spring has sprung as promises of rising temperatures and outdoor leisurely activities are on the top of everyone’s mind. Now is the time to get your home or apartment organized before summer hits, so that you have a lot less clutter to deal with over the summer months. Here are some steps outlining how you should get prepared to do some spring cleaning and move items to a storage unit for a better peace of mind.
1. Go through your items that you don’t use frequently, or are seasonal. You don’t want your Christmas decorations taking up all the space in your closet, when you could be storing shoes and outdoor goods in there.
2. Make a List. Make general categories of your items, and then notate what specific items you are packing under those. Microsoft Word and Excel would be great for this as you can create templates and outlines. While this sounds tedious, it will pay off in the long run. When you are at home, you will be able to know exactly what you have packed away in case you need something. This will also help prevent you from buying new things if you don’t remember what you have.
3. Pack and Label. Pack up those items you don’t need laying around and put them in boxes with clear labels. This will not only help you keep track of what you have already packed, but will make it very easy for you to go grab a box out of your unit when you need it.
4. Enjoy your additional space! Now is the time to re-organize the items you kept into the home, and maybe move some of those into the places you kept the items you moved to storage. This will make it much easier to find things, and your home or apartment will feel much cleaner.
